The client

The client is a Colombian engineering and IT outsourcing company headquartered in the Bucaramanga metropolitan area, with more than 1,000 employees. It builds and runs IT solutions for public agencies and private companies, bringing together several fields of expertise.

Its business depends on managing large volumes of structured and unstructured data for its clients, with the lowest possible latency and on highly available systems. That is why it refreshes its infrastructure frequently, looking for the best available technology at a competitive price.

The challenge

  • High availability across two sites: the new platform had to run in two different data centers.
  • More than 300 TB to migrate: all data from the previous system had to move to the new one.
  • Three months, end to end: including the vendor's hardware delivery.
  • Mandatory immutability: data had to be protected against modification or deletion.
  • Buy or renew: the company had to choose between extending the lease and support on its existing infrastructure or buying new capacity.

The solution

The project kicked off with planning and prioritization sessions between the client and Redsis to bring forward every implementation activity that could be done before the infrastructure was purchased, a key step in meeting the deadline. Redsis also delivered a price-and-benefit comparison between renewing the lease and support on the existing platform and buying new capacity. The client chose to buy.

Two data centers

Redsis engineering services covered installation and configuration of the hardware and IBM Spectrum Scale, plus data migration from the previous infrastructure. The entire platform carries a 5-year warranty directly from the manufacturer.

  • Bucaramanga: two IBM FlashSystem 7200 systems, four SAN switches and two IBM Power Linux servers.
  • Bogotá: one IBM FlashSystem 7200 system, two SAN switches and one IBM Power Linux server.
